SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
1998
1. Scholarship Competition:
A. Applicants will submit an essay of a minimum
of 2,000 words on one of the following topics:
i. Construction and The Environment.
ii. Why does America’s Infrastructure need renewal?
iii. How can we improve the image of the Construction
Industry?*
B. The essay will be submitted on paper or on computer
diskette.
C. Papers are due no later than 20 November
1998 to the AGC Student Chapter faculty Advisor.
D. The essay will be judged by the
AGC Education Committee and the San Diego
State University faculty advisor on:
i. Content………………………60 points
ii. Grammar…………………….30 points
iii. Presentation…………………10 points
E. The highest scoring students will be invited
to an oral interview with committee members. The two scholarship
winners will be selected by the committee after the interview process.
2. Eligibility:
Applicants must be full time Engineering students
at SDSU with a minimum of Junior year standing and members of the SDSU
AGC Student Chapter.
3. Scholarship benefits:
A. First Place: $ 2000 scholarship
will be awarded in January 1999 for the 1998-99 school year.
B. Second Place: $ 1000 scholarship
will be awarded in January 1999 for the 1998-99 school year.
C. Opportunity to develop written communication
and leadership skills.
D. Exposure to future employers in the Construction
Industry.
*This also the topic of the year’s James L. Allhands essay competition.
Entries are due to National AGC Education and Foundation by 2 November
1998.
