Program Outcomes for the Civil Engineering Program
Upon graduation, students will demonstrate the following:
A fundamental knowledge of the principles of mathematics, science, and engineering and their relationship to civil engineering problems.
A broad understanding of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities and their relationship to the practice of Civil Engineering.
An appreciation of contemporary issues, their engineering aspects, and their relationship to current societal concerns.
An understanding of the design process and the ability to design typical civil engineering projects.
An understanding of experimental methods as applied to civil engineering, including the ability to conduct experiments and to analyze and interpret data.
An ability to identify, formulate, and solve typical engineering problems in at least four of the following areas: structures, transportation, geotechnical, hydraulics & hydrology, construction, and environmental.
The interpersonal skills needed to work successfully as members of teams.
Skill in written, oral, and graphical communications.
Technical skills in areas important to civil engineering practice, such as fundamental abilities in computer programming, use of spread sheets, computer-aided drawing and design, and computer-aided production of visual aids for oral presentations.
An awareness of ethical principles and the ability to apply them to situations encountered in civil engineering practice.
An understanding of the legal responsibilities of civil engineers, including requirements for professional licensure, contractual relationships, and potential exposure to tort liability.
An understanding of relationships between design and construction professionals.
An understanding of work procurement and selection processes.
An awareness of the need for, and availability of, continuing professional education.
