Polish Adventure - SDSU sponsored summer program

KrakowThe "Polish Adventure" Engineering Study Abroad Program offers students a unique opportunity to learn about Central Europe and Poland in particular. The six week session follows the same schedule as the SDSU Summer Session I, and is taught by both SDSU and Polish professors. Courses are taught at the International School of Technology in English. Knowledge of Polish is not required, and English is widely spoken. SDSU students will live in University dorms, close to Polish and other international students, so there will be ample opportunities to mix with local students.

Locale:
Located in the heart of Europe, Poland is a country where medieval towns co-exist with modern life. Krakow, a city of 750,000 people, is the historical and cultural jewel of Poland as it was once the royal capital. It was one of the few major European cities to remain unscathed by World War II and boasts architectural masterpieces throughout. A cultural center, the city has been declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations. With endless festivals, cafes, bars, museums, and churches this enchanting city combined with the warmth of the Polish people is the perfect base for exploring Polish and European cultures. A short train ride will connect you to Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, and Bratislava.

Course Offerings:
“Principles of Engineering Economy” (SDSU - ENGR 430 - 3 units)
The instructor for this popular engineering elective will be Dr. Janusz Supernak who teaches this course at SDSU. Dr. Supernak speaks Polish fluently and will be available to students outside the classroom for sightseeing trips, etc. Open to Engineering students with sophomore or higher standing.

“Women in Polish Heritage” (SDSU - GEN S 450 - 3 units)
This course will examine the historical and contemporary roles of women in Polish history. Taught by polish professor Dr. Pawel Laidler, this unique course satisfies SDSU’s upper division cultural diversity requirement.

Academic Notes:
AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH – UST), Krakow, Poland is the second largest and the oldest Polish technical universities. It was founded in 1919 as the Academy of Mining, which provided professional staff for the Polish mining industry. The University consists of 15 faculties which educate about 29,000 students. AGH-UST has a long history of international collaboration.

Special Notes:
KrakowThe program cost includes accommodation in an AGH University dorm room, breakfast, lunch and dinner daily at the University Canteen, use of University facilities, monthly passes for unlimited use of all public transportation modes in Krakow, and seven sight-seeing tours: Wieliczka Salt Mine, the former concentration camp in Oswiecim (Auschwitz) and Brzesinka (Birkenau), The Royal Route, Wawel Castle, Gothic Cathedral, Jagiellonian University Museum, and river rafting down the Vistula.

The cost is $2,750 + airfare and tuition for SDSU Summer Session I.
