From the Chairperson:

I have had the privilege of being the Chairperson for the San Diego MESA Regional Industry Advisory Board (IAB) during the 2005-2006 fiscal years. I feel honored to be in this role; and I am having a tremendously rewarding experience.

I have worked with MEP (MESA Engineering Program) since 1994. My first encounter with the program was as a student at SDSU. As an MEP Alumnus, I know first hand how this program helps students achieve their goals of becoming an engineer or scientist. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University in 1999. MEP supported me throughout my academic career offering tutoring, advising, job shadows, mentoring and numerous other professional development activities.

Through my personal experience, I know MEP creates effective programs that prepare students for the competitive workforce. Therefore, after I graduated, I became a member of the MESA IAB because I have confidence in the program. At Infrastructure Engineering Corporation (IEC), I am responsible for recruiting and hiring high-ranking professionals and I know MEP provides students with the professional development skills they need to excel academically. It is not enough to graduate with an engineering or science degree. Students must be highly qualified and marketable to compete in today’s workforce. Engineers and scientists must be able to work in teams and be ready to become the next project manager. Companies such as IEC, work with MEP because engineers are always in high demand. This is a “one-stop” shop when looking for math, engineering, science and technology professionals.

As a member of industry, I strongly encourage you to join us and support this remarkable program. Your support can take many forms and any contribution you make is recognized and appreciated. Whether you choose to support by contributing a scholarship, sponsoring an event or volunteering your time, please know that you are investing in your company’s future by tapping into the most qualified and talented engineers and scientists entering the San Diego workforce.

Earnestly,

Dolores Ventura, P.E.
