These workshops reinforce the material presented in class by poviding additional problem solving techniques. The focus is to instill excellent study and networking habits in our students with an emphasis on collaborative learning and the use of small group teaching methods.
Who facilitates the workshops?
Each workshop is facilitated by a fellow student who has previously taken the course and earned an "A" or "B". Participants work in groups which fosters the networking skill's facet of the program.
Who should attend?
These workshops were created specifically for MEP/MSP Students and they are therefore given priority in attendance. Though, keep in mind, AEWs are limited to 15 students and MEP/MSP students must secure their spots before it is given to another deserving student.
How do I get into workshops?
Workshops work best when all students attending have the same professor. Make sure you register for the recommended section of the course to be eligible for the workshops. See COURSE RECOMMENDATION LIST for courses that correspond with the Academic Excellence Workshops. At that point a roster will be created with all MEP/MSP students registered in the recommended section. Then those students must attend to claim their spot. Unclaimed spots will be given to non MEP/MSP students who have signed up on a waitlist.
When do I attend workshops?
When creating your Fall 2008 class schedule:
Leave MONDAY & WEDNESDAY 12-2pm Open for Chemistry Workshops
Leave MONDAY & WEDNESDAY 1-3pm Open for Physics Workshops
Leave TUESDAY & THURSDAY 2-4pm Open for Calculus Workshops
I can't register for the recommended section .
There are two options:
The MEP/MSP Staff will decide if it's feasible to open a second workshop for that course. This will depend on need. The second option would be to have the student sign up for one on one tutoring. Students must come into the MEP office (E208) to inquire.
Do students have to pay for workshops or tutoring?
No, all services provided by MEP/MSP are free to students. Only your active participation is required.
