The College of Extended Studies offers a certification program for careers in financial planning.

Then consider San Diego State University, which was named among the top ten “Stand Out Financial Planning Schools” by Financial Planning magazine.
SDSU was also the first university in the nation to offer a personal financial planning specialization at a business school whose degree programs are fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
About the program
SDSU offers three Certified Financial Planning board-registered financial planning programs that qualify graduates to sit for the CFP Board's comprehensive exam. The six-course Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate is an ideal program for personnel interested in a career as a financial planning professional who meet one of these criteria:
- Financial services firm employees with client contact experience
- Attorneys
- Certified Public Accountants
- Enrolled agents and Certified Financial Analysts
- Accountants and financial professionals
- Candidates with advanced degrees in business.

The Certified Financial Planning board-registered Executive Financial Planning certificate program is a step in achieving the Certified Financial Planner™ certification. Upon completion of the 18-unit program, participants will be awarded an Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate and will be eligible to sit for the board exam.
This program is designed to prepare professionals with at least three years of financial services, law, or accounting industry experience for the next step in their careers.
The College of Extended Studies
SDSU’s College of Business Administration conveniently offers the Executive Financial Planner Advanced Certificate program through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies. Students pursuing further graduate studies may apply units from this certificate toward the Master of Science degree in Financial and Tax planning.
