Statisticians Attack Massive Data

Six thousand statisticians will gather, July 29, in San Diego to discuss data ranging from health care to sports.
Statisticians from around the world are flocking to San Diego this weekend for the Joint Statistical Meetings — the world’s largest gathering of statistics experts.

Six thousand statisticians from various disciplines will work to decipher information collected on what has become a data-dependent society.

Richard Levine, professor and chair of the mathematics department at San Diego State, gushed about the opportunity to bring top statisticians to San Diego.

“This is a major conference — people from all over the world will gather to discuss very important topics, ranging from sports, to medicine to climate change,” Levine said.
