
In this section plans are presented to develop and restructure the major elements in our operation. Our comments are grouped around the major functions in the College, including undegraduate programs, graduate programs and research, faculty development, facilities and computing.
We are currently in a very similar position to that which the US auto makers experienced in the late 1970's. As a first principle we have to assume that if you produce a quality product and continuously improve it you will succeed in the marketplace.
The community at large view Engineering Colleges as centers of innovation and new technological development. We should not only continue to build on this reputation, but exploit opportunities to leverage our knowledge base for financial gain. We should use our facilities and laboratories to become the Design Centers of the 21st century.
We should develop new assessment tools to measure the performance of both our students and faculty in the new work environment. It is necessary to provide continuous feedback and positive re-enforcement to team building endeavors at all levels.
I believe that we should commit ourselves to achieve the following major goals by the year 2010:
