The San Diego Union Tribune has posted an op-ed by Dr. Ping Lu, Department Chair, SDSU Aerospace Engineering Department, on SDSU Aerospace Engineering alumna and Jet Propulsion Laboratory System Engineer, Anachristina Morino, was with the NASA team that successfully landed the Perseverance rover on Mars.

The SDSU Women in Engineering Program and the College of Engineering Femineer® Program kicked off the International Day of the Girl week with a STEM Talk featuring Motorola Solutions. The STEM Talk was held on October 9, 2020, and engaged over 40 participants consisting of high school and college-level students, educators, and Motorola engineers.

SDSU’s top student researchers placed in three categories at the statewide competition, held this year in a virtual setting. Maricruz Carillo, a second-year doctoral student, placed first in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering category for her research on bone replacement techniques using ceramic materials and 3D printing.

In Spring, the WE Program faculty and staff wanted to create a virtual opportunity to stay connected with students during the pandemic. On April 30, 2020, the first WE Coffee Hour was hosted virtually through Zoom with a follow-up virtual WE Coffee Hour on May 22, 2020.

Speaking heavily about breaking through barriers, Dr. Miletic gave personal examples of the obstacles she has faced and had to overcome as a female engineer in industry and academia.
