Construction Engineering Student Earns Associated General Contractors of America Scholarship

Construction Engineering student Juliet Luevanos is one of only two recipients who received an AGC (Associated General Contractors of America) Build America Scholarship in the entire state of California.

The $2,500 scholarship will allow Luevanos, who recently moved into her first apartment, to focus on school and her leadership roles instead of worrying about finances. 

A San Diego native and current AGC & Club Management Association of America (CMAA) Secretary for the San Diego State University chapter, Luevanos is no stranger to the Aztec family. Her aunt and stepdad both graduated from SDSU, and is proud to be attending a program as rigorous as the Construction Engineering program at SDSU.

As the first engineer in her family, she credits strong female role models in her family and influential female professors such as Thais Alves, Associate Professor and The Associated General Contractors (AGC) Paul S. Roel Chair in Construction Engineering and Management, for instilling confidence in her. 

Luevanos’ long-term goals include working for a general contractor, continuing to expand her knowledge in construction, and continuing to be involved in the construction industry community here in San Diego.

“Juliet is going to be the next AGC & CMAA Student Chapter president. She is only the third female student to be the chapter's president. The previous two, Wendy Bohn and Michelle Filanc, both work for Clark Construction,” said Thais Alves.

Her next steps? “I want to continue to be involved with the construction community and help my peers get involved as well.”
