With the start of the 2022-2023 school year two weeks away, the Center for Student Success in Engineering (CSSE) at SDSU is hard at work hosting a New Student Orientation for our new students.

The CSSE is College of Engineering students' support team that wants to connect you to essential educational resources and enhance your college experience. Within CSSE, various types of academic advising are offered, as well as internship assistance and tutoring for specific courses.

The CSSE consists of a dedicated team of student peer advisors, full-time staff major advisors, student tutors, internship coordinators, and a CSSE coordinator.

Read some quotes from the team below on their experiences so far inviting the newest Aztecs to our college this month:

“I’m beyond thrilled to meet and connect with the incoming student body of SDSU, help reassure those coming into the College of Engineering, and have fun with my fellow Ambos while doing so this summer!” - Venia Ghazarian, Engineering Student Ambassador

“It is such an exciting time for new students and families, especially since this is our first in person orientation season since 2019. It's a long day of information for both students and parents, but our job is to set them up for success. With the College of Engineering team, I truly believe we accomplished that. They have the info they need to be successful and gain meaningful experiences from their time as Aztec Engineers! The very best part is seeing alumni whose son or daughter will be starting engineering in fall 2022 here at our Alma mater!” - Theresa Garcia, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

“Going through New Student Orientation for the first time as an advisor has been extremely rewarding to see the support that we are able to provide for students and their families. As a first-generation Latina myself, it always warms my heart to help students that share experiences and identities with me. The College of Engineering (or CoE) advising team has been an incredible network of knowledge, compassion, and care that helps not only to support us through this process, but also the SDSU community as we welcome informed and engaged future leaders!” - Juno Paláu, Academic Major Advisor

"Getting to experience SDSU's New Student Orientation has been a phenomenal experience, even though I am not the one starting classes at SDSU this fall! It is so energizing to be surrounded by the excitement and anticipation from our newest group of Aztecs. I hope that during their journey at SDSU, students are able to connect with the resources that were shared with them on their orientation day. Everyone here at SDSU is committed to students' success and I am privileged that I get to play a small part in that journey!” - Zuzanna Lever, Academic Major Advisor

"Orientation is one of my favorite campus events as an academic advisor.  I’m so privileged to be welcoming our new students and sharing tips for success, informing them of major and university requirements and potential pitfalls or speed bumps they may experience. This wonderful introduction between students, parents, staff and administrators is so important.  It allows us to showcase/highlight all the support and assistance available to them throughout their academic journey. What do other engineering students look like, which classes am I going to take and will I like my roommate? These questions and fears are shared by most students and I love when students ask questions, instead of suffering in silence.  I strive to create a welcoming and non-threatening environment during our breakout rooms by using my first hand experience as an Aztec and as a non-traditional-part-time-transfer student. The excitement and curiosity on their faces, assures me that I’m in the perfect profession. I look forward to seeing them walk across the stage at their commencement." - Leviticus Johnson, Academic Major Advisor
