Abraham Bustamante (He/Him/His/Él) is a Major Advisor for the College of Engineering. He was born and raised in Oceanside, California, which played a pivotal role in his development as a Chicano Scholar. His family is from Nayarit, México. Abraham is the youngest of four children, and a first generation college graduate, including MiraCosta Community College and San Diego State University. While attending San Diego State University, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chicano Studies with a K-12 Ethnic Studies Teaching Certificate. He then earned a Master's Degree in Education with a Concentration in Counseling and a Restorative Justice Practices and Trauma-Informed Care Certificate from San Diego State University.

Coming from a low-income immigrant community, where gang violence was in existence, Abraham developed a passion for working with youth with the aspirations of gang prevention and intervention where he would serve as a positive male role model within the community he served. Abraham gained experience working with at-risk youth through coaching soccer, both within the education system and through community organizations. While working with youth, Abraham learned the importance of mentorship and having positive adult role models. This led him to incorporate holistic approaches when working with individuals.

Outside of education, Abraham has a love for the beautiful game, or fútbol (soccer) and lowrider culture.
