AGC Construction Management Endowed Chair

The J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering & Management Program has been offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in Construction Engineering since 2008. Starting in Fall 2021, the program will expand to offer Construction Management degrees. Recruiting and maintaining high level faculty is a priority in building a successful program. The AGC Construction Management Endowed Chair fund provides support for a faculty chair position in Construction Management.
Roel Construction Company

AGC Paul S. Roel Chair in Construction Engineering and Management

The Associated General Contractors (AGC) Paul S. Roel Chair in Construction Engineering and Management was established in 2001 through the CEM Excellence Endowment. The Chair is currently held by Dr. Thais Alves, Professor in Construction Engineering and Management.

Alex Mora MESA Endowed Scholarship

The Alex Mora MESA Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2019 through the generous giving of Mr. Alex Mora, College of Engineering and MESA Program alumnus. This endowment provides scholarship support to students in the MESA Program in the College of Engineering.

Alfredo Aldrete and Sandra Pulido Aldrete MESA Endowed Scholarship

The Alfredo Aldrete and Sandra Pulido Aldrete MESA Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2020 through the generous giving of SDSU alumni and loyal supporters, Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo and Sandra P. Aldrete. This endowment provides scholarship support to students in the SDSU Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program in the College of Engineering. The Aldretes met at a MESA study group and they credit the MESA program for much of their academic success. They are pleased to support MESA so that other students can benefit from the program and become successful engineers.

Andrew Y. J. Szeto Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Endowment

The Andrew Y.J. Szeto Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Endowment supports research and development activities in the field of rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology (RE/AT) in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department. This endowed fund was established in 2019 by Dr. Andrew Y.J. Szeto, Electrical Engineering faculty emeritus.

ASHRAE San Diego Chapter Endowed Scholarship

The ASHRAE San Diego Chapter Endowed Scholarship was established in 1986. ASHRAE is a diverse organization dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. This endowment provides scholarship support to students majoring in Mechanical, Environmental, or Construction Engineering and who have demonstrated academic distinction in one of three areas: thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics. The first student scholarship was awarded in 1987.

Bergelectric Charitable Foundation Endowment

The Bergelectric Charitable Foundation Endowment was established in 2020 to support the AGC Construction Management Endowed Chair in the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program. Bergelectric, a national electrical contractor headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, has been a long time supporter of the CEM Program and its work to advance the construction engineering and management workforce.
Beulah and John Wills

Beulah and John Wills Engineering Excellence Endowment

The Beulah and John Wills Engineering Excellence Endowment was established in 2017 to provide support for the College of Engineering. Beulah and John Wills (now deceased) were strong supporters of higher education, particularly areas of engineering, science and technology. Funds from this endowment are used at the discretion of the Dean to ensure student success, faculty excellence, and research advancement.

Bill E. Leonhard, Jr. Endowment

The William E. Leonhard, Jr. Endowment was established in 2000 through the generous giving of Mr. Bill E. Leonhard, Jr., College of Engineering alumnus and distinguished SDSU supporter. The purpose of this endowment is to award merit-based scholarships to attract and retain outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to the College of Engineering.

The William E. Leonhard, Jr. Endowed Chair fund provides support for a faculty chair position in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering. This endowment was established in 1993 through the generous giving of Mr. Bill E. Leonhard, Jr., College of Engineering alumnus and distinguished SDSU supporter. The William E. Leonhard, Jr. Endowed Chair is currently held by Dr. Natalie Mladenov, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering.

Bruce Urquhart & Jacqueline Clayton Endowed Scholarship

The Bruce Urquhart & Jacqueline Clayton Endowed Scholarship is utilized to support student veterans pursuing degrees in the College of Engineering. The endowment was established in May 2014 by Mr. Bruce Urquhart, SDSU alumnus and College of Engineering Faculty member, and Ms. Jacqueline Clayton. Bruce and Jacqueline both have backgrounds in transportation engineering, and Bruce has been a part-time faculty member at SDSU since 1992. Bruce and Jacqueline have admiration for student veterans and their excellent leadership capabilities, and as a scholarship recipient herself during her time in college, Jacqueline feels it is important to support today’s students,

Camille Speer

Camille Speer Endowed Scholarship

The Camille Speer Endowed Scholarship fund was generously gifted by the Speer family, who was involved in the operation of the largest flight instruction facility on the West Coast. This endowment provides support for annual scholarships to students studying Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering. The endowment was established in 2004 and the first student scholarship was awarded in Fall of 2005.
Carol Forrest

Carol Forrest, P.E. Memorial Watershed Management Endowed Scholarship

The Carol Forrest, P.E. Memorial Watershed Management Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of Carol Forrest, a Principal Engineer and SDSU alumnus, who made an extraordinary contribution to the watershed management field during her 28 years of professional experience. This endowment is focused on encouraging students to enter and complete graduate studies in water resources related to storm water and urban runoff. Student scholarships will encourage graduate level research in improving how runoff is managed during construction, after land development (i.e., post-construction), in response to natural disasters (i.e., wildfires), or other events that affect water quality related to the protection or improvement of the health of receiving water systems and/or public property.
 Carter F. Truitt

Carter F. Truitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Carter F. Truitt Memorial Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2021 by Mrs. Beverly (Truitt) Carr and Dr. David Carr in memory of Mrs. (Truitt) Carr's late father, Carter F. Truitt. Mr. Truitt devoted his life to serving his community and country through military service and as a San Diego Police Officer for over 30 years. Mr. Truitt was endlessly inventive and pragmatic with an entrepreneurial spirit, earning a significant US Patent before age 30 with only a high school diploma. The endowed fund provides scholarship support to students pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. The first student scholarship will be awarded in the 2022-2023 academic year.
CEM Excellence

CEM Excellence Endowment

The Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Excellence Endowment was established in 2001 to provide operating and faculty support to the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program in the College of Engineering. The CEM Program was named by the Filanc family in 2006 and is home to California's only college program to offer Construction Engineering and Construction Management majors.
Cheng-Mo Sun

Cheng-Mo Sun Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Cheng-Mo Sun Memorial Endowed Scholarship provides support to first-time freshmen or transfer students majoring in Engineering. The endowment for this scholarship was gifted by Dr. Shu-Yun Chan, SDSU faculty emeritus, in memory of Mr. Cheng-Mo Sun in 1977.

The Daphne Marschalk Fredrickson Memorial Endowed Scholarship fund was named in memory of Mrs. Daphne Marschalk Fredrickson, College of Engineering alumnus and member of the Society of Women Engineers. The endowed fund provides scholarship support to students who are members of the Society of Women Engineers and are enrolled in the College of Engineering. The endowment was established in 2001 and the first student scholarship was awarded in the 2002-2003 academic year.

The Darrell P. Asquith Memorial Endowment provides scholarship support to students within the College of Engineering. The endowment was established in 2009 and was named in memory of Darrell P. Asquith, SDSU alumnus attended.

DN Tanks Endowed Scholarship for Diversity

The DN Tanks Endowed Scholarship for Diversity fund was established in 2020 by the generous support of DN Tanks, an El Cajon, CA-based company with over 90 years of experience designing and constructing prestressed concrete liquid storage tanks. In its efforts to support a diverse engineering workforce, DN Tanks has directed this endowment to provide scholarship support to students who are pursuing a degree in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, and that are members of the National Society of Black Engineers SDSU Student Chapter and/or involved with the SDSU Black Resource Center. The first student scholarship was awarded in academic year 2021-2022.
Donald Grey Wilson

Donald Grey Wilson Bequest Endowment

The Donald Grey Wilson Endowed Scholarship was established in 1992 by Donald Grey Wilson, P.h.D., SDSU faculty emeritus. Dr. Wilson was a faculty member in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department and was twice named "Most Influential Instructor" by SDSU students during his time with the College. The Donald Grey Wilson Endowment provides annual scholarship support for undergraduate students in the College of Engineering. Each scholarship awarded from this endowment will have at a minimum a value of $8,000.
Earl and Christina Myers

Earl and Christina Myers Endowed Scholarship

The Earl and Christina Myers Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2003 to provide scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering. The Myers family generously gifted this endowment in memory of Mr. Earl Myers, who was an SDSU alumnus and attended a two-year pre-engineering program at SDSU in the 1930’s. The first student scholarship was awarded in the 2004-2005 academic year.

Ellen Ochoa Endowment for the Femineer® Program

SDSU distinguished alumna Ellen Ochoa, the first Latinx woman to go to space and the former director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, established the Ellen Ochoa Endowment for the Femineer® Program in 2019. The endowment provides support for the Femineer® Program, which was adopted by the College of Engineering in Fall 2016. The program provides K-12 students with project-based learning, female engineering student mentors, and opportunities to visit a Femineer® affiliate university, while building a sustainable program and community for current and future STEM leaders.

The fred harris Endowed Chair in Digital Signal Processing fund provides support for a full Professor chair position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This endowment was established in 2020 through the generous giving of engineering alumni, Eric and Peggy Johnson. To honor emeritus professor fred harris and his legacy of excellence and teaching in digital signal processing, Eric and Peggy Johnson named the full Professor chair position the "fred harris Endowed Chair in Digital Signal Processing".

Georgia Griffiths, G2 Software Systems Endowed Scholarship

The Georgia Griffiths, G2 Software Systems Endowed Scholarship fund was established in July 2018 to provide scholarship support to students in the College of Engineering. Ms. Georgia Griffiths is a loyal supporter of SDSU and the President of G2 Software Systems, the first woman-owned defense contractor in San Diego, CA. The scholarship was awarded for the first time in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Hanlon/Garcia MESA Endowed Scholarship

Hanlon/Garcia MESA Endowed Scholarship for Engineering

Carlos (Civil Engineering '97, '00) and Gail Gonzalez (Liberal Studies '96, '97) established the Hanlon/Garcia MESA Endowed Scholarship for College of Engineering students in the MESA program.  They established it to honor Raymond Hanlon (Gail's father) and Maria de la Luz Garcia (Carlos’s mom).  Grateful for their SDSU education they are humbled with the opportunity to give back to the next generation of Aztecs.

The IBM Excellence in Minority Engineering Endowment provides support to minority engineering academic program services in the College of Engineering. This endowment was established in 1990 through the generosity of IBM, a multinational computer technology and consulting company headquartered in New York.

Jack R. and Jane E. Filanc Endowment

The Jack R. and Jane E. Filanc Endowment was established in 2005 by the Filanc family in honor of Julia Filanc, daughter of Jack R. and Jane E. Filanc. The endowment provides support to the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program in the College of Engineering. The Filanc family, as leaders in the field of construction, recognized the need for a construction engineering and management program in the San Diego region in order to develop a highly-skilled workforce of construction engineers and managers. The program honors Julia and leaves a permanent legacy for the construction industry.

This endowment was generously gifted through the McMahon Family Trust. Chi Epsilon is a civil engineering honor society dedicated to maintaining and promoting the status of civil engineering as an ideal profession. The SDSU Chapter of Chi Epsilon was established in 1967.

This endowment was established in 2013 by Mr. Michael R. Niggli, an SDSU Electrical Engineering alumnus and generous supporter of the College of Engineering. The first student scholarships were awarded from this endowed fund in the 2014-2015 academic year.

The NECA San Diego Endowment was established in 2022 to support the AGC Construction Management Endowed Chair in the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program. NECA San Diego, represents more than one hundred electrical contractors is a proud supporter of the CEM Program and its work to advance the construction engineering and management workforce.

Paul Stuverud MESA Endowed Scholarship

The Paul Stuverud MESA Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2019 by Paul Stuverud, alumnus and long-time supporter of the College of Engineering. This endowment provides scholarship support to students in the SDSU Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program in the College of Engineering. Paul’s over 30 year engineering career was spent in San Diego and he feels it is important to support first generation and underserved students in their pursuit to become engineers.
Peter John Filanc

Peter John Filanc Leadership Award Endowment

The Peter John Filanc Leadership Award provides scholarship support to students in the Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering Department within the College of Engineering.  This endowed scholarship award was generously gifted by the Filanc family in honor of Mr. Peter John Filanc, former CEO of J.R. Filanc Construction Company and loyal SDSU supporter. As a dedicated philanthropist, Peter was a supporter of education and had a passion for mentoring and inspiring young engineers. The endowment was established in 2005 and the first student scholarship was awarded in the 2011-2012 academic year.

Preston Lowrey III Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Preston Lowrey III Memorial Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 1996 to provide scholarship support to students majoring in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. This fund was established in memory of Mr. Preston Lowrey III, who at the time of his death was pursuing research in alternative energy resources as an Associate Professor at SDSU. Preston graduated from Duke University in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in oceanography and geology, then pursued mechanical engineering at NC State University where he graduated with his graduate degree in 1984. After serving as an Assistant Professor at Ohio State University in 1985-86, Preston came to SDSU to pursue his area of research. Preston was an avid explorer, loved the outdoors and enjoyed working with students. Preston’s appreciation for the environment drove his interest in research for alternative energy resources and he was motivated to try and make the world a better place through his research.

Qualcomm Women in Engineering Program and STEM Outreach Endowment

The Qualcomm Women in Engineering Program and STEM Outreach Endowment was established in 2004 to provide project-based learning and other support to inspire and empower students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in their education and future careers. Programming for this initiative is implemented through the College of Engineering's Women in Engineering and Femineer® Programs. The endowment was generously supported by Qualcomm, a multinational wireless technology corporation headquartered in San Diego, CA.
Rick Engineering

Rick Engineering Company Endowed Scholarship

The Rick Engineering Company Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 2021 by the generous support of Rick Engineering Company, an engineering, planning and design firm headquartered in San Diego, CA. This endowment provides scholarship support to students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering. The first student scholarship will be awarded in academic year 2026-2027.
Ramón and Gracie Riesgo

Ramón and Gracie Riesgo Endowed Scholarship for Engineering

San Diego State University alumni Ramón (Aerospace Engineering ' 91) and Gracie Riesgo (Public Administration '88) are Aztecs for Life. They choose to give back to SDSU by establishing the Ramón and Gracie Riesgo Endowed Scholarship for Engineering as a way to say thank you for all that SDSU has done for them and to support the next generation of Aztecs. 

The couple met during a fateful night at a fundraiser for Gracie’s club, MABA (Mexican American Business Association) and the rest is history. Since graduation they've continued their involvement in student organizations centered around empowering and supporting Latino students on campus.

Through the generous support of the S. Falck Nielsen Family, the S. Falck Nielsen Family Scholarship Endowment was established in 1982 to provide scholarships to entering freshmen in the College of Engineering.

The San Diego Chapter of the Women in Defense (WID) organization cultivates and supports the advancement and recognition of women working in San Diego’s defense industry. Through one of its initiatives to support women who are working toward careers in defense and national security, the San Diego Chapter of WID established an endowed scholarship fund to provide student scholarships within the College of Engineering. The endowment was established in 2009 and the first student scholarship was awarded in the 2010-2011 academic year.

San Diego Foundation Blasker Chair

San Diego Foundation Blasker Chair endowed fund provides research support for a faculty chair position in Environmental Engineering. This endowment was established in 1996 through a grant provided by the San Diego Foundation, Blasker-Rose-Miah Endowment Fund. Former San Diego aeronautical engineer, Samuel L. Blasker, left a legacy gift to the San Diego Foundation to advance the frontiers of science across disciplines, including biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, oceanography, computer science, sociology and ethics. The Blasker Chair is currently held by Dr. Temesgen Garoma, Professor and Director of the Environmental Engineering Program at SDSU.
Sanford Stone Memorial

Sanford Stone Memorial Endowment

The Sanford Stone Memorial Endowment was established in 2002 by Mrs. Dorothy Stone and her children in memory of Mr. Sanford Stone. Sanford Stone was an emeritus faculty member of the SDSU Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department. This endowment supports a cash award (known as the Sanford Stone Memorial Award) to the top graduating student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This award is the most coveted student award in the Department and supports student success and leadership opportunities.
Stephen and Lynne Doyle

Stephen and Lynne Doyle Endowment

The Stephen and Lynne Doyle Endowment was established in 2007 through the generous giving of Mr. Stephen and Mrs. Lynne Doyle, distinguished SDSU supporters. Stephen Doyle is an SDSU civil engineering alumnus, Chair of the College of Engineering Dean's Advisory Board, Vice Chair of The Campanile Foundation Board of Directors, and leader in the California building industry. Stephen and Lynne have been recognized for their philanthropic contributions in the San Diego region and established this endowment to support the development and betterment of the J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program in the College of Engineering.

Pine, 1951 SDSU alumnus. As an "Aztec for Life", Thomas was an avid member of the SDSU Alumni Center, SDSU Athletics' Big 50, and the Aztecs Football Legacy. He was awarded the Monty Award for Alumni of the Year and invited to give a commencement speech to engineering graduates. The Thomas G. Pine Endowed Professorship is currently held by Dr. Sunil Kumar, Professor of Electrical Engineering at SDSU.

Wayne E. and Mary Beiler Leutloff Aerospace Endowment

The Wayne E. and Mary Beiler Leutloff Aerospace Endowment was established in 2017 through an estate gift from Wayne E. and Mary Beitler Leutloff. Wayne E. Leutloff was an SDSU 1949 social science alumnus and he worked in engineering services at Lockheed Martin. Mary Beiler Leutloff was a flight nurse and she met Wayne during the Korean War when they were both serving in the military. The endowment supports the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering.
