Dr. Hassan Tavakol's, Civil Engineering undergraduate course, CIV E 444, has been showcased by the Cool4Ed initiative at the CSU Chancellor's Office, which is supported by the State of California (AB 798), the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

The showcase illustrates Dr. Tavakol's efforts in promoting zero-cost engineering course materials to enhance inclusiveness in his classrooms. The SDSU Bookstore has calculated the savings for students provided by Dr. Tavakol as $35,943 to date, based on the number of enrollments and the price of the avoided traditional textbook. Because of such efforts, Dr. Tavakol will be recognized as a SDSU Affordable Learning Solution Trailblazer in Spring 2021.
