BIOGRAPHY
Urban water resources have always been a central focus of Jim’s work. He currently serves as a Deputy Program Manager on the Stantec Team supporting Pure Water San Diego. This Program is the City of San Diego's phased, multi-year program that will provide nearly half of San Diego's water supply locally by the end of 2035. Jim also serves as a strategic advisor for Stantec on stormwater capture and use projects, practices and research throughout North America.
As a result of Jim’s innovative ideas, many of the projects he’s managed have received international accolades for their innovation and sustainability. A recent project garnered more than 15 awards, including being selected as a finalist for the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award, one of the most prestigious honors given by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Jim consistently gives back to the community and his profession through volunteer leadership roles:
- Serves as co-chair for the California Stormwater Quality Association’s stormwater capture and use subcommittee.
- Past-president of the San Diego Chapter of the WateReuse Association. During his tenure, the chapter assisted with outreach and education that helped to “turn the tide” with respect to public opinion on potable reuse in San Diego.
- Technical Advisor to the State of California on its Clean Beach Task Force (from 2006 to 2015). The Task Force has provided more than $100 million in funding for beach water quality projects throughout the State.
Jim is a Registered Civil Engineer in California and Arizona, a Professional Engineer in Texas and Hawaii, a Board Certified Environmental Engineer, and an Envision Sustainability Professional.
