Marathon Construction Makes $75,000 Gift that Completes AGC Chair Campaign

On behalf of the College of Engineering, we are pleased to announce Marathon Construction Corporation has made a gift in the amount of $75,000 to support the AGC Chair in Construction Management.

Marathon Construction is a longtime supporter of the JR Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program.  When the AGC Chair Campaign was first announced in 2020, Marathon was one of the first to support the campaign with a $100,000 gift.  Their second gift of $75,000 is one of the final gifts that completed the $2.5M campaign.  In addition to financial support, Marathon Construction hosts students at their Lakeside headquarters to get hands-on experience with field equipment. Earlier this spring, SDSU Professor Nensi Lakrori arranged a site visit for students where Mike and Julie Furby presented SDSU JR Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Program Director, Dr. Thais Alves with the gift.  Mark Filanc, CEO of Filanc Construction and chair of the JR Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Advisory Board was on hand to thank Marathon Construction and the Furby’s for their generous gift.

Mike Furby, President of Marathon Construction serves on the JR Filanc Construction Engineering and Management Advisory Board.  If you happen to see Mike, Julie, or any Marathon Construction representative at a community event, campus happening, or industry function, please feel free to express appreciation on behalf of the College.

The AGC Chair in Construction Management is being established to attract and retain high-level CEM faculty.  With the $2.5M campaign complete, SDSU is moving forward with a faculty search that is planned to have a faculty member in place Fall 2024.
