A major gift to the Cai Li and Daniel Haiming Chang Center for Electric Drive Transportation will support research and development in electric and hybrid automotive technologies. Led by Distinguished Professor Chris Mi, the center was renamed in a Dec. 11 ceremony.

When Joe Kiani first enrolled at San Diego State University he was typically the youngest (15) kid in the room. That was rarely a hindrance for the student who immigrated from Iran, now CEO of a medical technology company and a presidential adviser, but the same can’t be said for his original plan for his education. “I wanted to be a doctor but I realized quickly I wasn’t good at chemistry,” Kiani said in remarks Thursday morning at the President’s Lecture Series at Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. “Fortunately I was good at physics, it came naturally to me.”

Peggy Johnson (Honorary Doctor of Science) received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from SDSU in 1985.

Juan Rojas has been involved with the Aztec Electric Racing club since his first year. In June, the club puts its project to the ultimate test.

Nicole Hurtado-Savin, the recipient of a CSU endowed scholarship, wants to help younger women break the gender and cultural stereotypes she has already started to overcome.

Recent graduates will teach English to children in Brazil and pursue a study/research project in Trinidad and Tobago.

After graduation, Dan Jennings will become a Mechanical Engineer at SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific in Point Loma, a research facility for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Jennifer Boman worked as a quality-engineering intern at Accriva Diagnostics, a San Diego medical device company. After graduation, she will return to Accriva as an Engineering in research and development.
