After 37 years at SDSU and 54 years of teaching, SDSU engineering professor Allen Plotkin retires with an impressive legacy behind him.

Aerospace Engineering professor and Chair, Dr. Ping Lu, leads a project that will develop the method and algorithms for integrated optimal entry, descent, and landing (EDL) guidance for human Mars missions with pin-point precision.

Aerospace engineers Xiaofeng Liu and Jose Moreto built an instrument which allows the university to perform cutting-edge research on turbulence flow.

The San Diego Union Tribune has posted an op-ed by Dr. Ping Lu, Department Chair, SDSU Aerospace Engineering Department, on SDSU Aerospace Engineering alumna and Jet Propulsion Laboratory System Engineer, Anachristina Morino, was with the NASA team that successfully landed the Perseverance rover on Mars.

Amaury Reed, SDSU Aerospace Engineering senior, is one of six students who have been awarded a scholarship in the Galactic Unite Black Leaders in Aerospace Scholarship and Training (BLAST) program. BLAST is a scholarship, mentoring and fellowship program for college Sophomore through to Senior year Black scholars pursuing STEM education with a focus on aerospace in the U.S.

The Particle Image Velocimetry Lab session was developed and taught by Dr. Xiaofeng Liu, Assistant Professor, SDSU Department of Aerospace Engineering, along with assistance from his graduate and undergraduate students. To date there are only 9 universities nationwide that have invested in this type of experiment.

Galactic Unite through the efforts of Virgin Galactic Future Astronaut Scott Borden has awarded a grant to the SDSU Aerospace Engineering Dept. to support a scholarship program. The Department has awarded twelve $1,600 scholarships for the 2018-19AY.

In January 2019, Ahmed Atallah, a Ph. D. Aerospace Engineering student in the Joint Doctoral Program, won the John V. Breakwell Student Travel Award from the American Astronautical Society (AAS) Space Flight Mechanics Committee.

Dr. Luciano Demasi, Professor in the SDSU Aerospace Engineering Department, was formally honored and inducted as an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) on January 7, 2019.
