NSIN Capstone students at San Diego State University and Rice University prototyped boats for the U.S. Coast Guard last semester. The Naval Engineers Journal highlighted how these student technologists are improving coastal surveillance, detection, and interdiction capabilities against threats posed by the transit of drugs in autonomous surface vessels across the maritime border with Mexico and into California.

Andrew Preisler is a rising senior mechanical engineering student who is spending the summer at CAES (Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions) as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. CAES is an electronics manufacturer and tier two supplier of RF, microwave, and millimeter wave solutions.

Through the STEM Pathways project, SDSU engineering students participate in an entering research course at the community college level, several enrichment workshops, mentoring and applied STEM experiences that help students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a career in STEM.

Summer Internship: Day in the Life of Ackara Seav, Electrical Engineering major at SDSU. Ackara is interning at Northrop Grumman as a Systems Engineering Integration and Test Intern on site in San Diego.

Donald Mensah (BSAE '19) participated in SDSU's MESA Program, DBF (Design Build Fly), and the National Society of Black Engineers while an undergraduate student. Now working at Lockheed Martin, he gives back to the programs that gave him so much by donating to the MESA Engineering Fund.

Undergraduate and graduate students from San Diego State University and California Polytechnic University Pomona are being mentored in-country by Brazilian PhD students, postdoctoral scientists, and faculty.

Summer Internship: Day in the Life of Elias Malachi Enguancho, Mechanical Engineering major at SDSU. Elias is interning as a Quality Engineer at SeaSpine, a company that produces surgical implants and instruments, namely for the spine.

Paulina Díaz-Montiel arrived in 2014 as an international student. Since then, she’s earned her master’s and become the first female Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program in structural engineering.

Emily Bidgood (Mechanical Engineering '20), reflects on her time as an intern at Rivian so far: from college activities, through a rotation program, and now as a full-time engineer.

From April through June, four Israeli and San Diego student groups travelled to and from Israel as part of collaborations between SDSU and the Technion, led by Professor Joe Katz, and USD and the Azrieli College of Engineering, led by Professor Frank Jacobitz.
